ABOUT US
For 45 years The Festival Theatre at Hever Castle has been creating unforgettable live events in one of England’s most spectacular historic settings, Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn.
Founded by the repertory theatre company Kent Rep, the festival has grown into a multi-genre receiving and producing house, presenting everything from classic plays and family entertainment, to music, comedy and musical theatre.
Our story has been one of evolution while remaining true to the belief that great entertainment should be accessible, welcoming and unforgettable through our (almost!) year-round programme of events which attracts audiences from across the South East to the other side of the world.
Our heart beats at Hever Castle, one of Britain’s most treasured historic venues. For 45 years, the Castle’s stunning gardens have provided the backdrop for our unique open-air productions. In 2024, Hever Castle built us the Two Sisters’ Theatre. Featuring a single-span continuous clear roof, the venue combines the atmosphere of outdoor performances with the comfort and reliability of a covered auditorium. Allowing audiences to enjoy world-class entertainment in all weathers, while remaining immersed in the beauty of the historic surroundings.
Alongside playing at Hever Castle, we are further privileged to present performances and events at neighbouring remarkable heritage venues, each bringing its own character and atmosphere to our events with their equally exceptional historic settings.
The breadth of our programme now extended beyond our repertory theatre days and includes; The History Festival at Hever Castle, where leading historians, broadcasters and authors bring the past vividly to life, Forest Fest Silent Disco which transforms woodland settings into magical evenings of music and celebration, the enchanting GLOW Fest, festive indoor Christmas events and exciting new productions including Mary Queen of Rock (2026). We are committed to celebrating ambitious new work, alongside established favourites.
While our productions continue to evolve, our audience remains at the centre of everything we do. A visit to Festival Theatre is enjoyed by families and friends gathering for special occasions; countless birthdays, anniversaries and even marriage proposals have been celebrated at our events. Whether enjoying a picnic or pre-theatre supper before a summer performance or exploring the gorgeous historic gardens, our guests create unforgotten memories.
Audience members tell us that the Festival Theatre is ‘Such a beautiful place, totally transporting and good for the soul.’, that we are ‘A unique experience you will remember for ever.’ and ‘Being at the theatre was like being on holiday.’. These experiences and traditions have become an important part of our identity and are a source of great pride for our team.
As we celebrate more than four decades in the castle garden, we remain dedicated to producing outstanding entertainment, championing our remarkable venues and creating experiences that bring people together. From our repertory theatre roots to our diverse programme of theatre, history, music and seasonal events, The Festival Theatre continues to honour its heritage while we look confidently towards the future.
